Lacto-N-neotriose (LNT II, Lacto-N-neotriose), CAS number 75645-27-1, is the core structure of human milk oligosaccharides (HMO) and has extensive nutritional and health care potential. LNT II and HMO have important biological functions. It not only plays a key role in anti-infection, but also helps newborns’ intestines resist the invasion of pathogenic microorganisms and maintains overall health.

    Application Areas:

Suitable for functional food, infant formula, special medical food, nutritional supplements, beverages, pharmaceuticals, and scientific research reagents.

Infant Formulas and Functional Food Additives:
Lacto-N-triose II (LNT II), an essential human milk oligosaccharide, serves as the precursor of lacto-N-tetrasaccharide and lacto-N-neotetraose. Safety assessments conducted in a 90-day trial, where LNT II was administered at various dose levels (0, 1,500, 2,500, or 5,000 mg/kg body weight), revealed no genotoxicity in in vitro experiments. The highest dose of 5000 mg/kg body weight/day was determined as the no observed adverse effect level (NOAEL). These findings affirm the safe use of LNT II in infant formula and food ingredients within the naturally occurring range in human breast milk.

    Promotion of Beneficial Bacteria:
Lactose-N-trisaccharide positively influences the balance of human intestinal microecology. It enhances the adhesion of intestinal epithelial cells, promoting the production of succinic acid and short-chain fatty acids. This not only supports the survival and reproduction of beneficial bacteria but also reduces the number of pathogenic bacteria.

    Protection of Newborns:
Among human milk oligosaccharides, lactose-N-trisaccharide exhibits a significant inhibitory effect on the growth of GBS bacteria (group B Streptococcus). The intake of lactose-N-trisaccharide can aid newborns in resisting potential risks.

Regulation of the Human Immune System:
LNT2 induces the production of IL-10 and TNF-α, with its effect depending on NF-κB. Compared with other human milk oligosaccharides (HMOs), the impact of LNT2 is more pronounced, attributed to its unique n-acetylglucosamine terminal structure and binding to Toll-like receptors (TLRs) with leucine-rich repeats. The effects of HMOs on TLR signaling and immunomodulation of macrophages partly depend on their structure.

    Reduction of Food Allergy Risk:
Lactose-N-trisaccharide directly prevents the binding of pathogenic microorganisms or toxins to intestinal epithelial cell surface receptors through the ends of their surface sugar chains, effectively reducing the risk of food allergy.
